Pamela Williams, The Saxtress
The Palm Springs Women’s Jazz Festival starts Saturday with Cool Soul Jam featuring artist Pamela Williams. Williams’ 1996 debut album, The Saxtress, hit the Top 10 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album charts and remained on the chart for a full five months. She also earned the title of Best Female Contemporary Jazz Artist of the Year.
Since then, Williams has also worked with Babyface, Chante Moore, Sheila E., The Ohio Players. She has appeared in a variety of videos by artists ranging from soul veteran Barry White (“Come On”) to rapper/actress Queen Latifah (“Hard Times”). She’s recently been on the same bill as a solo featured artist with John Legend, Toni Braxton, Eric Benet and George Benson to name a few. Along with being a noted musician, she has written and produced songs for the late Teena Marie.
